Well the desert is definitely taking its toll on my creative edge.  All around me I find nothing but dry desolation – a broad landscape of sand, cactus, brick walls, do-not-enter signs, and empty parking lots.  Nothing for miles that catches my eye’s fancy, not a hint of hope for finding something to photograph for my black and white project this week.

I compromised and decided to go with what lay right in front of my face.  I attempted to find an interesting way to capture something dull.  Gates with warning signs and empty parking lots don’t make for very exciting subject-matter, but I worked with what I had and have portrayed them here in the way I thought most interesting.  If nothing else, I appreciate the message conveyed in the top image, and the bottom image is definitely a good study in leading lines (whether good or bad I’m not sure, but it has lines in it nonetheless).

Though the desert is quite dull and devoid of inspiring vistas/interesting subject-matter, I will say that being in a place where the sky is clear and the temp is in the mid 80’s on the 15th of February does have its perks.  Enough said, more to come…
