With the weather getting warmer, it’s time to start enjoying more outdoor activities.  One of the great ways to explore and take advantage of the wide open spaces out on the Palouse is to go on a bike ride.  There’s something exhilarating about cresting a big hill and coasting down to the bottom, leaving a trail of dirt and dust in your wake.

Because it’s such a common object, the details of its design are often overlooked.  But the combination of spokes, gears, and chain leads to an intricate study of shape, leading lines, and texture.  I shot this with a 50mm macro with the aperture at its max in an attempt to capture the details up close while still limiting the depth of field to the point that it leaves no room for distractions.  It’s interesting to see the spokes disappear into nothingness as they reach towards the edges of the frame.

As summer approaches, I hope you’re able to get out and enjoy the beauty of God’s creation, maybe take a little bike ride.  More coming soon.
