I took a short trip today – or a voyage as some would call it.  Some people would be wary of sailing the high seas in a home-made vessel, but I had constructed my boat to specification and was confident in its durability.  The water was calm and peaceful, the sky not too threatening, a perfect setting in which to set sail.

It took nigh an hour to reach my intended destination.  The breeze had not been in my favor and the current had been weak in spots.  As I floated along, I contemplated how vast the sea was and tried to fathom its depth.  Gazing down into the endless abyss, I attempted without success to find the bottom.  What unknown grandeur and beauty lay beneath my feet I could not know.

Finally I landed on a secluded beach, one of my old haunts growing up.  It had been an eternity since I’d last stepped foot on its sands, but as I gazed around, it became clear to me that nothing had changed since the last time I had visited.  The foliage was just as vibrant, the water just as clear, the beach just as inviting.  Stepping out of my boat, I walked across the sand to my old favorite spot.

Why I had been so long in returning I couldn’t tell, but now that I was here, I knew I mustn’t abbreviate my visit.  I wanted to soak it all in, take advantage of this special time and not let myself be concerned with the stresses of daily life.  The hustle and bustle could wait, I wanted to enjoy the here and now.

I spent the rest of the glorious afternoon basking in the sun and skipping rocks across the cool clear water…
