Sometimes the biggest challenge to taking pictures is seeing the beauty around you.  Often times we’re so used to our surroundings that we’re blind to the potential that’s right in front of us.  I’ve often thought that if I was able to travel to different places and see the amazing beauty that is characteristic of every place in the world (excepting the place I am now), that I’d take more photos and build an incredible portfolio.  Unfortunately, one of the biggest challenges of photography is taking what’s around you and finding a way to make it beautiful.

This shot was taken at work, a place I frequent every day, yet it’s a place that I would not consider to be beautiful.  A bunch of warehouses surrounded by chain-link fence and barbed-wire.  Beauty at it’s best (not).  And yet, though I may not see it right now, there are literally hundreds of potential images waiting to be captured in just that area alone.  All I have to do is open my eyes a little and begin to see beyond the mundane and start to see the world around me as an image waiting to be caught on film.  That’s the objective behind this project, and hopefully I’ll discover things along the way that I would have otherwise missed.
